We had a very successful summer reading program this year. We implemented a new program in the Blaine community and were met with positive reception. So positive that beginning in September we will offer Story Hour in Blaine every Wednesday at the Blaine Community Center. I am delighted to offer this opportunity to our patrons that live further out in the county. To date we’ve hosted 15 summer programs at the library with an attendance of 870. Together with the Blaine programming we reached over 1,000 patrons this summer with our programs! We are always looking for new ideas for programs so if there is anything in particular you’d like to see offered at the library let us know.
This summer also kicked off the first ever LCPL Summer Internship Program. The program was open to teens ages 13-18. We had a total of 13 teen participants and they logged just shy of 250 service hours. Our teens were a huge help this summer. They assisted with everything from shelving books to working with the children’s programs. We also started the first ever LCPL College Student Summer Work Program. We hired two college students from Lawrence County to work the summer months. I can’t stress enough what a pleasure it was to have these students. They were invaluable employees during the busy summer season.
We have already started planning for our fall and winter activities. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for more information.
