CHILDERS, GOLDIE MAE PRICE F232

Goldie Mae Price Childers, wife of Reck Childers, was born Aug. 16, 1894 and died December 23, 1974.  She was the daughter of Newton and Levisa Johnson Price.

She was born in Lawrence County on (G)Nat’s Creek.  She was orphaned at age 4 and reared in the Oddfellow Orphanage in Lexington, Ky.

She had 5 children:  Fern Marie Childers Tucciarone, Rondall Larue Childers, Claude Willis Childers, Margaret Joyce Childers Stepp, and Phyllis Amy Childers Price.

She taught in one-room schools in Lawrence County for over thirty years, including George’s Creek, Preston Gap, Richardson, and Peach Orchard.  She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1958.

She taught her children and many of her grandchildren.  She was affectionately known in the community as “Granny” Childers.

Her daughters, Joyce and Phyllis, still reside in the Richardson area.
