The Lawrence County Public Library Board of Trustees recently voted to approve a waiver for all patrons with overdue fines and other miscellaneous fees from items checked out on or before August 31, 2023.
LCPL Financial Amnesty FAQ
1. What items are covered in the amnesty?
The amnesty applies to fines from overdue DVDs/Blu-Rays/video games and replacement fees for lost or damaged items. We do not charge late fees for books, audiobooks, or magazines.
2. What does this mean for me?
If you were unable to use your library card due to fees on the account from late, lost, or damaged items, these fees will be removed once you come into the library to update your information with us.
3. What if I have overdue items?
If you have overdue books, audiobooks, or magazines, no worries, we do not charge late fees on these items. If you have overdue DVDs, Blu-Rays, or video games that were due back on or before August 31, 2023, these items can be returned to the library through September 29, 2023 with no late fee.
Items returned that were checked out on September 1, 2023 or later will receive late fees like normal. If items checked out on or before August 31, 2023 are returned AFTER September 29, 2023, these items will receive the full late fee.
4. How long does the amnesty last?
Fine amnesty will end after September 29, 2023.
5. What do I need to do to have my overdue fines forgiven?
If you have any fines or fees charged prior August 31, 2023 or items that have been lost or damaged, come to the front desk of the library to update your info and any fines or fees will be waived. Any items checked out or reported lost/damaged AFTER September 29, 2023 will be subject to fines and fees.
6. I paid fees prior to September 1, 2023. Can I have my money back?
We appreciate your honesty and work to replace lost, taxpayer funded material. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on payments that have already been made prior to September 1, 2023.
7. I’ve lost my library card. What can I do?
Come in and update your info with us, and we’ll give you a one-time free replacement library card.
