Big Sandy News Digital Collection

The Lawrence County Public Library (LCPL) Genealogy Department has completed an extensive digitization and archival project of the Big Sandy News. The Library is now the only organization housing the complete digital collection of the Big Sandy News from 1885 to current. The user-friendly, searchable collection may be viewed at: https://lcplky.advantage-preservation.com/.

Earlier dates of the newspaper (1885 – 1922) were digitized by the Library of Congress Chronicling America project. The LCPL converted the Library’s microfilm collection to digital as well as all remaining hard copies of the newspaper to both microfilm and digital to archive issues for the years 1920 – 2022. The library will update the digital collection annually.

The Big Sandy News microfilm collection is still available to view at the Library. Digitization was completed in partnership with Advantage Archives. The project was funded by the Library. For more information regarding the project visit: https://lcplky.org/big-sandy-digital-collection/.
