The Memory Lab
The VHS portion of the Memory Lab is currently undergoing maintenance. We are still able to provide audio cassette, 8MM/Super 8MM, and document/photograph conversion.
What is The Memory Lab?
- The lab provides equipment for digitizing home movies and audio cassettes as well as scanning photographs and slides. It’s a do-it-yourself (DIY) model, meaning we provide step-by-step instruction, but you control the process from start to finish.
- The lab can be reserved for three hour sessions. More time may be permitted if there isn’t a reservation following your reserved time.
- The lab is available during regular library hours and closes 15 minutes prior to the library. The library will not hold your files or materials overnight. You must take all of your material with you. Everything saved on library equipment is deleted at the end of each day.
Why should I care about personal archiving?
- Organization
Many of us have large personal collections of physical items. Often storage space is limited and keeping track of tapes, slides, and other items can become burdensome. Digitizing personal collections can free up space in your home or business while ensuring your memories are safe. - Security
Personal collections are often meaningful and irreplaceable. A natural disaster, move, or other major event risks damaging items in those collections. By digitizing your memories, you can ensure their security for years to come. - Legacy
Technology is rapidly changing. Many of the components for this lab are difficult to find and can be costly. Ensure your memories are easily accessible to loved ones in the future by preserving them today.
How do I get started?
- Prior to using the Memory Lab, you must complete a brief training with a library staff member. You may complete the training the same day as your first reserved time, as long as a staff member is available.
- Fill out the form below to reserve a date/time–reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
